Renaissance Man
March 28, 2020
Ever since I was a kid, I always had a creative side to me and I always had a very good imagination, at least that's what I remember. I would draw from looking at any picture that I could find that pulled me in. I never could draw very well from my imagination as well as I could draw from looking directly at a picture or object. So I began drawing off and on for years until I went off to college.
I was also good at writing lyrics, poems and songs and I still do that to this very day. In elementary school, I sang in the choir, played the xylophone, clarinet and the drums, and when it came to sports, I could play all sports but was very good at basketball. In Junior High School I was introduced to woodworking class and I became very good at building things. With all that said, while I was in High School and after college my main friend at that time was a guy by the name of Adrian Carter. |
To live is the rarest thing in the world. |
Adrian Carter was a good friend of mine who was a very funny dude. He would have you laughing all day. He was a real upbeat dude, good with the ladies and just a good dude to hang around with. So once he found out all of the different talents I had, he said, "man I'm going to start calling you, "The Renaissance Man". I laughed at him but I think he was right and I liked the sound of it. I'll never forget what he said to me and how he helped me out back then. I'll never forget him. He passed away back in 2013. Another great person, gone to soon. So I dedicate this website to my boy, Adrian Carter.
I built and designed this website as a means for me to express and showcase some of the work I do. My drawings, poems, designs, musical talent, and athleticism. I'm not here to sell anything, but if you would like to buy any of my drawings just let me know or if you would like to commission me to draw a picture for you. Just leave your information in the Contact Form. I would also like to thank my father for giving me my athletic genes and my mother for giving me the creative freedom to do what I wanted to with my bedroom when I was a young boy. She gave me and my brother Jeff the freedom to create and do whatever we wanted to do on the walls of our bedrooms. I still have the door to my old bedroom on Rittenhouse St. that I drew a picture of an old man on, when I was 17 years old. So thank you, Mom and Dad! I did a lot of drawing in the late 80's and 90's and I stopped drawing in 1997 when I started my own construction company called, P. L. Johnson Construction, Inc. My website is www.PLJConstructionInc.com All of my creativity and time went into the business, but recently I decided to start drawing again, so I picked up the pad and pencil and began drawing back in January 2018. My first drawings in 21 years. I've done three new pictures since then. Even though my major in college was Art History, the medium and technique that I use was developed through the years by me. While in college on a basketball scholarship, I accidentally found a different way of using the pastel to create almost life like pictures. Hopefully I will continue to draw and create and do all the things that I love to do. The Songs and Poems page will come later. It's still a work in progress. Hope you'll enjoy this website and the pictures I have on here. Some pictures may offend some people because of it's nudity, but it's not meant to offend anyone, it's just me. This is who I am. It's not a big website or all that fancy, but it's me, Phillip Leander Johnson Sr. |
